To ensure our school continues to provide an effective education for your children, we continually evaluate what we do and how well our pupils achieve.  As part of this process we look for ways of doing things better of differently to ensure we continues to provide the best education and care we can.  Our priorities for development may change as the needs and strengths of our school change.  Each year we decide on our improvement priorities for the coming years.  This year our main priorities for development are:   

• Develop children’s understanding of what makes a good learner, developing resilience, take risks, be resourceful, to be able to learn with and from each other, to be reflective and open to new experiences.  To embed this approach in all aspects of delivering our agreed curriculum.

• To further develop the school’s approach to sustainable leadership, including the development of middle leaders; identify talented and potential leaders, providing opportunities and professional development to ensure the school has an intrinsic leadership resource.

• To update our current SEND procedures and provision in light of the new Children and Families Bill.

• To embed lesson study as a professional development and action research resource to enable us to investigate the best ways to help our pupils learn.

• To improve attendance further.

• To develop the use of assessment to inform teaching and learning, and for tracking pupils’ attainment and progress.  This will be done in light of national changes to statutory assessment and schools needing to decide on their own assessment processes to replace ‘levels’ of attainment.

• To embed the new curriculum across the school ensuring children have access to quality learning experiences which meet the requirements of the new National Curriculum.

• Continue to focus on the development of communication and language in the Early Years Foundation Stage.

• Continue to improve standards in English and Maths.

• Improve standards in Maths – to be able to correctly select, use and apply mathematical language and concrete resources to enable them to deepen their conceptual understanding of maths, thus enabling effective application to problem solving.

• Continue to increase progress for any groups identified as at risk of underachievement.

• To implement the strategy of pupils consistently speaking in full sentences, with a particular focus on maths.

• Continue to develop children’s use of Phonics to improve reading and writing.

• To maintain the developments in stamina for writing to enable us to further develop strategies to improve writing skills and children’s understanding of how writing is structured according to purpose and audience.

• Further develop sentence structure and the use of grammar and punctuation.

• Build new Nursery to provide a more integrated Early Years Foundation Stage.

• Build new Music Room and Library.

• Develop allocated KS1 and Reception playground to provide more structured play activities that help to increase opportunities for social development.
